1-to-1 Performance Coaching

Evidence-Based coaching for athletes seeking structured, long-term performance development.

This service is designed for athletes who want expert guidance, bespoke programme design, and informed decision-making support. Coaching is delivered primarily online and grounded in sport science, applied practice, and real-world performance constraints.

How This Works

1-to-1 coaching is a structured process rather than a collection of sessions.

Coaching Philosophy: Ready and Robust

My coaching philosophy is grounded in the principle of being Ready and Robust.

Ready refers to preparing athletes so they are physically and athletically equipped to get the most from their sport-specific coaching. Performance is improved primarily through practising the sport itself, under the guidance of the sport coach. My role is to ensure the athlete has the physical capacities and movement qualities required to tolerate, express, and repeat those sport-specific demands effectively.

Robust refers to developing athletes who are durable and resilient, allowing them to train consistently over time. The emphasis is on building physical qualities that reduce unnecessary breakdown, support availability, and enable sustained training exposure across weeks, months, and seasons.

This approach is underpinned by evidence-based practice, where decisions are guided by first principles and practical context. Methods are selected based on their ability to address the underlying demands of the sport and the individual, rather than trends or prescriptive templates.

The objective is not to maximise training for its own sake, but to support long-term performance through appropriate preparation, informed decision-making, and consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book a consultation before starting coaching?

Yes. All 1-to-1 coaching begins with a mandatory performance consultation. This ensures training decisions are informed, appropriate, and aligned from the outset. Ongoing coaching is only offered where there is a clear rationale following the consultation.

Does the consultation include a training programme?

No. The consultation provides expert analysis, guidance, and direction, but does not include programme delivery. Bespoke programme design is part of ongoing coaching only.

What happens during the performance consultation?

The consultation focuses on understanding your sport, goals, constraints, training history, and availability. It establishes priorities and decision-making principles that inform whether and how coaching should proceed.

How is ongoing coaching priced?

Ongoing coaching fees are agreed after the consultation, based on the level of support required, training complexity, and performance context.
Indicative monthly fees typically range from £325–£750.

Why isn’t there a fixed package price for everyone?

Athletes differ significantly in their training history, constraints, and support needs. Pricing reflects the scope of work required rather than a one-size-fits-all package.

What does “weekly asynchronous check-in” mean?

A weekly asynchronous check-in is a structured, non-live exchange. You submit a brief weekly update, which is reviewed, and concise guidance is provided. This does not include real-time messaging or continuous back-and-forth communication.

Can I contact you anytime between sessions?

Communication is structured to support effective decision-making and protect training quality. Availability depends on the level of coaching agreed and is discussed following the consultation.

Is this suitable for beginners?

This service is designed for competitive and serious recreational athletes who can train independently with expert oversight. It is not designed for casual fitness training.

Do you offer in-person coaching?

Coaching is delivered primarily online. In-person work may be discussed where appropriate but is not the default service.

Is this rehabilitation or medical support?

No. Coaching focuses on performance development and robustness. It does not replace medical, physiotherapy, or rehabilitation services.

How long do clients typically work with you?

This varies by athlete and context. Many clients engage over multiple months to support long-term development rather than short-term fixes.
